How to give an intramuscular injection?

An intramuscular injection is not so simple and free from dangers as a subcutaneous injection in animals. It should be performed in the back of the thigh, halfway between the pelvis and the knee where there are large muscle masses. Prepare the syringe with the medication and the cotton with the disinfectant.
Keep the dog or cat still preferably in a lying position. After thoroughly disinfecting the part, slowly insert the needle into the muscle mass and aspirate slightly with the plunger to ensure not to accidentally enter a blood vessel, signalled by the presence of blood inside the syringe. Finally, the product is injected, the needle is extracted, and a light massage is performed on the part with cotton.
